The Season is upon us, but Friday is still dead. The only stirrings are a wine tasting at La Maison.
More luck on Saturday. Film scores maybe lowbrow, but theatre music can’t possibly be. The week’s most promising listing is an immersive experience of Maradana theatre music, presumably from Tower Hall’s golden age. As an extra treat, it’s at the gloriously Victorian Maradana railway station.
Also, the opening night of Jehan Aloysius’ A Christmas Carol. The show is only running for six nights, so catch it while you can. Aragalaya inspired art, with an artist walkthrough by Pradeep Thalawatta, at Saskia’s. While you’re there, catch the last few days of Chundamani Clowes’ exhibition too.
On Sunday the chamber music society’s babas play for free at Goethe Institut.
Synth your way through the week. On Tuesday, Bread Modular Sound Check for electronic music fiends (we had to google it too, but it’s by Music Matters so no doubt it’s banging). Wednesday is for the less cool: a half day session on enhancing export competitiveness by the Chamber of Commerce.
Competitive charades on Thursday at Isle Amore. School holidays may be upon us, but you can buy yourself some peace and quiet: that’s right, a Christmas creation camp for the kids every single day until Christmas.

What to read
The perpetually swollen Nilwala ganga is always flooding and making the news. Find out why in a thorough assessment of the river. Or get a peep into the state of universities, by reading Shanil Wijesinghe’s sombre but optimistic reflections on being an academic in Sri Lanka.
Ahilan Kadirgamar and others write about Sri Lanka’s interest rate trap. Check out our chart from last week for added context. And for those not terrified of India, a piece on the obstacles to Indo-Lankan connectivity.
