The law requires that some projects conduct environmental studies, either an IEE or a lengthier EIA, before starting work. Based on these studies the Central Environmental Authority will either approve or reject a project. But rejections are rare. Are most proposed projects actually environmentally sound or are the studies misleading? Or does the authority knowingly approve bad projects?
Note: the data only reflects approvals and rejections of EIAs and IEEs. It does not include projects that are still pending a decision. EIA data for 2019 is not available, but each year IEE data is the vast majority anyway.
