Deep down, every parent knows that every day is children’s day. This weekend, don’t be shy, admit it to your kids with activities celebrating the holiday. Havelock City’s [Kids Land](https://www.instagram.com/p/DdnoB0ejYFn/?ref=examiner.media) takes over the weekend, as does a [sushi workshop](https://www.instagram.com/p/Ddx13HFAuI7/?ref=examiner.media) for the princelings.

Or, rebel parent. On **Friday**, [Angry Indian Goddesses](https://www.instagram.com/p/DduinzbgpyY/?ref=examiner.media) is on, so are jolly Germans at the start of [Oktoberfest](https://www.instagram.com/p/Ddl2-d2MdGq/?ref=examiner.media). There’s also beautifully colourful strokes at the [Curado](https://www.instagram.com/p/Dd1BSULCDFi/?img%5Findex=1&ref=examiner.media), bringing you contemporary Indian miniatures.

On **Saturday**, Kasun Wickramasinghe’s [dark angels](https://www.instagram.com/p/DdqKFNJjIus/?img%5Findex=1&ref=examiner.media) at Paradise Road, and on **Sunday,** find your inner goat at the [Elphinstone](https://web.facebook.com/dennis.perera.18/posts/pfbid02RqESfL9YitPei7NFjSWk43UbXMxyLqT7qsMDtwP7so9TDBLXDaRyRjm3bVTQixJFl?ref=examiner.media). Line up at Lakmahal for a [poetry open mic](https://www.instagram.com/p/Ddi6vLSIlT0/?ref=examiner.media). Slots are full for now but if you’re persistent maybe they’ll squeeze you onto the waiting list. No such prep needed for the comic art club [meetup](https://www.instagram.com/p/Ddvpc8WE%5FKq/?ref=examiner.media).

The **coming week** looks outward. Over at Himal, Roman Guatam [speaks](https://www.instagram.com/p/Dd03b8XI0Xk/?ref=examiner.media) on the polycrisis in Nepal. And Shezad Dawood [talks](https://www.instagram.com/p/DdsqjvRik6v/?img%5Findex=5&ref=examiner.media) about modern South Asian architecture, picking five case studies.

Formerly posted in Sri Lanka, Gurjit Singh [lectures](https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story%5Ffbid=1526209516213056&id=100064720654784&mibextid=wwXIfr&rdid=LR6qe2F2J4WNGVZl#) on his new book on Sri Lanka in a changing Asia. There’s also a [workshop](https://www.instagram.com/p/DdbcFs1mYvb/?ref=examiner.media) for banks to get up to speed on personal data protection. And if that all sounds quite dreary, Kiku gives you a [horny quiz](https://www.instagram.com/p/Dd6SMmMAPv4/?ref=examiner.media).

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is **next weekend**, so start [currying favour](https://www.instagram.com/p/DcOPtPxGyok/?img%5Findex=3&ref=examiner.media) with your model and photographer friends. Also tickets are out for [UBU](https://www.instagram.com/p/Ddp7ESQgvFl/?ref=examiner.media), an entirely devised play with a stellar cast, that promises to be weird and bold.

*What to read*

There’s a lot to say on PSTA 2.0: here’s the [bill](https://documents.gov.lk/api/content-file-proxy?file=/bill-content/PL%2015913%20%20%5BE%5D%5F1790077811.pdf&ref=examiner.media), the human rights commission’s [observations](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QDrYO5UhXPe%5FLjMR8a1dSH-dJC%5Fqa02B/view?usp=sharing&ref=examiner.media), Sanjana Hattotuwa’s [critique](https://sanjanah.wordpress.com/2026/09/28/revised-not-reformed-the-psta-bill-2026-from-an-information-integrity-perspective/?ref=examiner.media), Rohan Samarajiva’s cautious [not bad](https://www.ft.lk/columns/Prevention-of-Terrorism-Against-the-State-Bill-Finally-progress/4-797823?ref=examiner.media), Ambika Satkunanathan’s detailed [analysis](https://www.ft.lk/columns/Revised-Protection-of-State-from-the-Terrorism-Bill-What-s-changed-and-what-remains/4-797767?ref=examiner.media), the UN’s [concerns](https://spcommreports.ohchr.org/TMResultsBase/DownLoadPublicCommunicationFile?gId=31407&ref=examiner.media), Internet Media Action’s journalist [POV](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XbOF0rGeRfO6u2DTlXzJnkpqNqutybYm/view?usp=sharing&ref=examiner.media), and *The Examiner’s* cop-out of just aggregating all this in diary. There’s also a bit on [22A](https://www.ft.lk/columns/SC-determination-on-22A-A-law-and-policy-critique/4-797871?ref=examiner.media), this time from G.L. Pieris.

Kumari Jayawardene [lives on](https://feministarc.org/?ref=examiner.media) and Basil Fernando, recently passed, is [remembered](https://thuppahis.com/2021/06/28/confronting-ethnic-violence-and-its-roots-in-vengeance/?ref=examiner.media). Rajni Gamage and co. [inspect](https://www.isas.nus.edu.sg/papers/youth-led-protests-and-regime-change-in-south-asia/?ref=examiner.media) how gen z, generally derided for being lazy, successfully led regime-shifting protests in South Asia.

Americans, unsurprisingly, are awed that [Jetavanaramaya’s](https://edition.cnn.com/travel/jetavanaramaya-sri-lanka-megastructure-anuradhapura?ref=examiner.media) been around for nearly 2 millenia. Elephants likely built it. And a netflix show [creates](https://countercurrents.org/2026/09/eelam-exile-and-the-politics-of-identity/?fbclid=IwdGRjcAUrQrtleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBwZG9mBWZkaWQWUPe2oGzD1RSZhMTJqtcHrG0DnbYSdXNydGMGYXBwX2lkCjY2Mjg1NjgzNzkAAR6fsMRPrED2G2ezHSuSxFisbgSMYePm95XAZ4MSkgxJ6GDDtf26aDF-TXGOLg%5Faem%5Fkv1J6MGU5gbbryQziQmXDw&ref=examiner.media) more drama outside of it than in.
